MA Media Enterprise

I handed in the final part of my Masters at the end of May, completing the 18-month part time course. I found out a couple of weeks ago that I passed the course with a commendation, sweet! The course, directed by Annette Naudin and written by Sara Harris, was devised to help new businesses, like ours, grow and develop. The structure was ideal for me, and the programme included fantastic lectures from visiting lecturers and subject specific speakers from industry.

I started the MA around the same time Substrakt got going, this was in the hope that I would get a boost up what was to be a steep learning curve. The course definitely did this, and I highly recommend it to anyone starting out in a media based business, and indeed anyone working in the industry looking to develop their knowledge base.

Below is the testimonial I wrote for the course.

“The MA Media Enterprise really stood out to me, it included several extremely relevant modules that tied in with my business and forced me to cover important issues. I was able to use Substrakt as a case study for many of the module assignments, this proved to be an invaluable asset, allowing me to use the course’s flexibility to ensure Substrakt gained the most relevant business development. My final project was based on e marketing and involved the exploration and analysis of techniques that could be used to help effectively promote my own and clients’ businesses online.“

St. George’s School

May 8th, 2008

We have just uploaded a new web site for St George’s School in Edgbaston. It was a great pleasure to work with the school and both parties are very pleased with the final result. The site runs a full content management system and has brought the school into the digital age with the likes of RSS feeds and an online calendar that allows the school staff to input and organise all events within the school calendar.

We are looking forward to seeing how the site is received and developing the site in the future with possible additions such as the implementation of more social/community features.

Visit the site at www.sgse.co.uk

Thanks to Stef Lewandowski, who is on the School’s Council of Trustees and Marketing Group, for preparing a clear and comprehensive brief as well as helping us to communicate the more technical elements of the web site to the staff and board members.

With regards to my last post…I would like to admit muppetry on my part with both hands held high! Forget-me-not-panties is infact a hoax (which I’m sure many of you already knew).

It is just one of the project campaigns by The Pantyraiders, which include Plastic Assets, Christians against Hip-Hop and Goodbye Bitch.

Well hats off to you ladies…yet another one to add to the fooled millions!

On a more serious note, and this one’s for real…

A fish at a Scottish museum has undergone surgery after visitors complained it was too ugly.
A harmless but unsightly growth was removed from the goldfish, which was on show at the Royal Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. ?The operation was paid for using coins thrown into the fish pond atthe popular visitor attraction. A spokeswoman for the museum would not say how many complaints had been made about the fish. ?Scientists decided to remove the unsightly growth after people expressed concern. The lump, which did not seem to distress the fish in any way, was removed along with one of its eyes.

As reported on BBC News online.

Birmingham School of Architecture

June 25th, 2007

The Birmingham Institute of Art and Design at Gosta Green had the private view for their end of year show last Wednesday. The particular faculty that was of most interest to us was the School of Architecture. We developed their yearbook, which was a great pleasure, and while developing content gave us a chance to look closely at the high standard of work that came out of the School this year.
